Not On Fragrantica EP1: - Walden Natural Perfume
I found this brand through a social media advert and having not heard of them before and checking out the description, I was keen to give them a try.
The brand’s modus operandi is a return to natural perfumery, without synthetic ingredients. This is arguably more impressively as restrictions by perfume regulatory bodies before more restrictive with each periodic assessment.
I purchased the sample set of five of their eight perfumes. With 5mls each totalling £30 you get a good wearing for a relatively low price compared to other artisan brands (I also used their code WALDEN30 for first time customers). The samples do not have a nozzle, so I recommend atomising these yourself first or otherwise carefully applying manually to your skin. The brand sell their perfumes in sprays of 15 & 50mls (the most expensive being £70 for 50ml & £24 for 15ml) and for those who prefer a non-alcoholic perfume, they sell coconut oil based rollerball perfumes at 10ml for up to £17. My opinions below are on the alcohol-based perfumes and are based on a ‘first impressions’ take on the scents rather than a full review.
The Solid Earth
Earthy green aromatic fragrance. Starts brightly but within half an hour it’s a vetiver overload with mossy undertones.
Projection – up to 3 hours
Longevity – 8 hours+
Castles In The Air
A citrus floral base fragrance. The opening even hints at the tropical, but that’s the florals blending with orris and citruses. Lacking in depth though and is sadly short lived.
Projection – Up to 2 hours
Longevity – About 5 hours.
Two Eternities
Summer in a bottle. The bergamot & orange are exquisite. I almost detect neroli in the opening, though this is not listed as an ingredient. The jasmine is also blended very well. I would say this leans unisex though I don’t feel that it’s too feminine to me. Unfortunately, the performance is poor, even in mild temperatures and will evaporate very quickly in the high heat.
Projection – 1 hour +
Longevity – About 4 hours.
A Different Drummer
This perfume is a cooler weather masterpiece. The right blend of bergamot with woods, tobacco and patchouli make for a sophisticated masculine scent, with a strong bubble to enjoy for hours followed by gentle wafts through the day. Well balanced, difficult to dislike, suitable for formal & casual daytime or casual evening wear.
Projection – up to 4 hours
Longevity – 8 hours +
A Little Stardust
A powdery floral, this scent has sweet tones without smelling sickly and is traditional but not aldehydic. Jasmine, orris with a vanilla coffee accord are the highlights here.
Projection – up to 3 hours
Longevity – up to 8 hours
A Different Drummer was a stand up favourite of the five for me, and would certainly upgrade to a larger bottle for regular cooler weather rotation.
